I call this world the FAST TRACK WORLD
My boys were watching the iconic Malgudi Days on Amazon Prime. They were hooked and addicted to the series. The nostalgic me felt a connect and sense of pride that they seemed to enjoy a serial that I enjoyed watching in the 80's!
They binge watched 54 episodes/ 4 seasons in less than a week. Deja Vu to now, I hear a lot of adults telling me how Netflix is a time consuming binge watching affair! Few of my friends even avoid initiating a series since temptation could be all consuming!
The boys stared at me in disbelief when I said we watched Malgudi Days once a week, and if we lost power we simply missed that episode. To them this was agonising.
The tech driven world has its snare all around us making it almost impossible to break through these shackles. Alexa, Siri, Ok Google, and the like have made patience a non existent virtue. Everything is instant!!
On a recent Mom + Children trek, we lost access to the mobile network and what followed was peace, an appreciation of the beauty of nature and a whole bunch of healthy banter amongst us.
Short lived for just about 24 hours, the moment mobile network was restored, we saw ourselves glued to work and other callings on the MOBILE!
This reflection brought a few thoughts to me. Adults are actually babies in big bodies. We all love attention, being pampered, laughing, indulging in games and playing like a child.
There were a few children on the trek and they all adapted to nature, trekked in the rain, ran in the wind, splashed in the waterfalls, giggled every time they fell, admired the colors of the flowers, laughed at us because we were slow. They never seemed to run out of patience or wish for gadgets at that time.
I guess, our children would learn to be more child like and enjoy the little joys of life if we could wean them away from gadgets and allow them to revel in their childhood and youth.
Children apart, how about weaning ourselves from our work, gadgets that could help us to recharge and actually connect with ourselves.
I re-discovered a few attributes about myself as I learn to detox myself from work and gadgets for an interval everyday.
Cycling and cycle racing with other children is a sport I enjoy
Badminton is a game I am passionate about, playing with younger kids is better, since I get more exercise!!
Reading PG Wodehouse, makes me laugh alone & improve my English too!
Dancing & swaying to music is enchanting
Playing scrabble and scoring a triple word score with an alphabet that scores 8 points is the ultimate win!
Collecting varied types of bookmarks is cool
Finishing a whole pack of Parle G is better than dieting!!
Going to the library and just staring at the volumes of books is deeply satisfying
Playing in water ( beach or otherwise) is a joy that cannot be replaced !
Singing and playing Dumb Charades while travelling with a group in a bus is priceless!
I love scrambling around with my nieces and nephews and growing into a 5 year old with them.
What is that childlike aspect in you that you would like to RELIVE & RECREATE!
Oscar Wilde said "The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it!
I say the only way to enjoy life is to become a child again!

That's the way to live life totally!! Love it love it love it!
