A TRAVEL CONSULTANT, NOT A TRAVEL AGENT

“I did make changes and that is part of the booking process for an agent”   The above statement was made by a prospect client who has been making multiple changes to a proposed itinerary which has been in the pipeline for the last 2 months. Several changes have been made to accommodate the client’s whim and fancy for her travel.   Her statement got to me , it annoyed me.   To me it felt like this was her entitlement , since she thinks of us as a travel agent – we must provide multiple changes and options without a compensation for our time and efforts. From our experience we have seen that many picky choosy clients take multiple iterations of itineraries and do not confirm the bookings either.   In today’s world, when you call an electrician/ plumber or any other expert to look at a problem, a service fee is charged. Try using an app like Urban Clap/ Housejoy, there is a cost to the expert visiting your location and understanding the problem.  ...

Child in me!!

I call this world the FAST TRACK WORLD My boys were watching the iconic Malgudi Days on Amazon Prime. They were hooked and addicted to the series. The nostalgic me felt a connect and sense of pride that they seemed to enjoy a serial that I enjoyed watching in the 80's! They binge watched 54 episodes/ 4 seasons in less than a week. Deja Vu to now, I hear a lot of adults telling me how Netflix is a time consuming binge watching affair! Few of my friends even avoid initiating a series since temptation could be all consuming!  The boys stared at me in disbelief when I said we watched Malgudi Days once a week, and if we lost power we simply missed that episode. To them this was agonising.  The tech driven world has its snare all around us making it almost impossible to break through these shackles. Alexa, Siri, Ok Google, and the like have made patience a non existent virtue. Everything is instant!!  On a recent Mom + Children trek, we lost access to the mobile network a...

NURTURE!!

We have a few potted plants at home, rose, jasmine, betel nut leaf, turmeric and a few others. By the virtue of being in a pot, at a point in time, the plants were all withering away. It saddened me to see that and yet I had no time to actually do something about it.   My wise mother-in-law gave me a suggestion. We use a few flowers for prayers in the Puja room and she suggested that instead of discarding them I might put them in the pots.   I followed her sane advice and everyday a different pot would get the flowers of the previous day.   Viola!!! in about 2 months, every plant in the pot was rejuvenated. All green and lush, growing beautifully, creeping up the compound and more!    I was amazed and stunned, a part of me feeling proud that the plants bloomed so beautifully thanks to my action.   This brings me to the deeper thought in my mind. If the plants were a person – a friend, cousin or relative that we loved, have we knowingly or unknowi...
